A Prison Called School

Bricks stacked, square our learning

Locked doors close to protect

Bells sound to keep us turning

Until ourselves, we slowly forget

Rooms of quiet constraint

Hands raised in silent suppression

Spirits quelled till dull and faint

Echo of order-disguised oppression

How many more human spirits and beings will this antiquated institution take prisoner before we curtail the distressing loss of our most precious national resource – our youth ?

Schools are experiencing unprecedented turbulence and are clambering to meet the many demands of students and society, yet they come up short, often intensifying the struggle.

Education’s response of “reform” is an inadequate solution to the complex issues at hand.  Rather, a “new form” is needed, one that will transform and catapult the field and its inhabitants into the present and possibly even the future.
